CHAUCER GOES GREEN DAY 9th JULY 2010
Green Day Friday 9 July 2010
Promoting Environmental awareness – wear a green item to school day.
2010 is the year of biodiversity. Watch the link below. It is also the year that we at Chaucer decided to try and reduce our energy use and become a little bit more sustainable in school by signing up to 10:10.

on the day – socks will do!
Swap Shop
As part of our Green agenda we will be planning a swap shop to open on Green day.
What is a Swap Shop?
The basic idea is to promote the recycling of any old items we no longer use or like and find something new that has been recycled by someone else. If you would like to contribute some swappable items then contact Ms Murphy in Assisi College. There will be a donation point at the staffroom and in the Assisi College for both staff and students and everyone who contributes an item will receive a voucher to spend at the swap shop - so basically you will receive one voucher for every item you recycle - and each voucher will enable you to buy someone else’s recycled goods. Obviously we are asking for items in good condition e.g. something that someone else may like and be able to use.
So what can you recycle at the Swap Shop?
Clothes, shoes, magazines, DVD’s games, books, home furnishings, unwanted gifts, uneaten Easter eggs (As long as they are still in date!) – whatever, you think someone else may appreciate.
Crafts in Form Time
Would you like to get creative in form and contribute to a large piece of school artwork – for Green day? All you have to do is make an individual or class environmental awareness raising piece of art to contribute to a large banner but please ensure you include your name/ details. All finished pieces to be handed in to Ms Murphy in Assisi. H203. There will be a prize for the most original piece.
And finally … which college will win the Green Cup?
There is a Green Cup up for grabs which will be won for the Most Green college in school – so make a team effort to win the Chaucer green cup. How do you win – Your college has to be the most consistent green college in school. Are you & college staff consistently reducing your energy use – e.g. are you always switching off when not in use?
Are you recycling enough?
Are you reducing your use of paper?
Are you the cleanest (litter free) area of the school?
